weyheyhey!! - toomuchnotenough</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
Genre: Breakcore</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
Release Date: April 17th, 2016</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
Producer weyheyhey's toomuchnotenough shows itself to be an exemplary release for the breakcore genre, establishing itself as a unique piece amidst an often familiar landscape. Where this album excels is in its presentation as a more traditionally structured breakbeat record playing into the sensibilities of chaotic percussion and sampling instead of using the two as the album's hook. The soft synths that ride above the hectic drum patterns give the record a smooth and familiar face reminiscent of early 2000s electronica and the power of the drums keep the energy high throughout. This album also isn't afraid to indulge in some weirder ideas, such as the demented fair-ground music that leads the majority of "Effection Part 2's" run time or the choppy hip hop vocal samples in "Other People's Pleasure". </div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;">
A bit of a tough one to describe, due to my lack of experience in describing electronica, but what can't be denied that this record has the energy, fun, and clever composition to make it stand out in a genre where artists typically tend to go overboard in making their music loud, abrasive, and weird. Which also makes this record a plus for people who may find the more abrasive side of the genre to be a turn off, and would rather find a more comfortable and familiar starting point, which is also why this album gets a glowing recommendation.</div>

Hey! Do you like harsh vocals with brief instances of harmonic perfection, fuzzed out guitar riffs, and infectious pop hooks? If yes, then I wish to direct you to <i>I Thought You Didn't Even Like Leaving </i>which follows the recent trend of Weezer-inspired fuzzed out depression-core. Though with this band the harsh vocals and their approach to relaxed songwriting where the guitar melodies carry the track is the closest any of these bands have gotten to sounding like Blue-era Weezer. Also if this genre isn't your cup of tea... what's wrong with you?</div>

Comprised of live improvisational recordings the Bitter Jews project is elusive and very, very interesting. Songs drone for long periods of time and songs brew with festering anger under a sea of noise, sparse guitar lines, hectic drum beats, and the occasional vocal. The atmosphere here is super thick and menacing, filled with the sort of unsettling reflection that leaves us only guess what transpired and led to a recording of an album such as this. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Take it from someone who really dislikes progressive rock, this is an excellent progressive rock record. Porto Morto utilize an amazing range of instruments and songwriting styles to create a very expansive, catchy rock record that never confines itself to one style. Very dense and intricate composition finds instrument after instrument playing a small role in the songwriting process to create a larger than life end product. This record packs in catchy horn arrangements, harpsichords, plucky electronic beats, quirky drum fills, and group vocals to create a very fun, interesting, and engaging record that has no right to be free when it's this good. </div>

Sad to say that I will no longer be covering free albums 100% of the time and the one free album featured in my newest post happens to have already been covered on here, but I hope you guys will enjoy nonetheless.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://grabgbag.blogspot.com/">First post can be found here </a><br />
<br />
Thank you all for supporting this blog and for contributing in spreading the name of the artists who deserve it. It was fun working on this blog while it lasted, but I suppose it was a good time to move on. Later!Razhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01692442801746622701noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1484949084888135893.post-77145327451476258742016-04-18T20:48:00.001-07:002016-04-18T21:38:23.585-07:00New Blog?Don't know if there are people here to read this, so I'll make it brief and hope to get a response.<br />
<br />
The lack of updates on this blog have come from me not really feeling like doing this anymore. Not so much because I don't feel like this blog doesn't get enough attention or anything like that - more so because I feel like this blog is a dead end of sorts. Finding and writing pieces (if you can call it that) for free albums is surprisingly difficult as I have to sift through pages upon pages of releases to find something noteworthy that ALSO happens to be free for this blog to function. This has been getting considerably difficult as I have started running the list of albums I had before I revived the blog last year thin.<br />
<br />
My solution to this is to develop a new blog which i will be titled Bandcamp Grab Bag which will be a bi-weekly blog where I share 5 albums, both free and priced, from around Bandcamp and other, obscure corners of the internet. I feel like this will not only allow me to have a far larger realm of albums to work with, but I can develop my writing skills to more professional standards while establishing a cleaner blog presentation for music fans to discover new artists.<br />
<br />
This blog will most likely be rolled out in the following weeks as I feel it best that I have at least four entries loaded up before I shift time to dedicating discovery of new albums. I feel like this is the best idea since at this point this blog is dead and so is the large amount of traffic I had built up in the first half of 2015. Thank you to whoever is reading this, I will be making a follow-up post soon for a link to the new blog.<br />
<br />
update: the blog is live, but I only have a "welcome" post so far. Feel free to check it out, my first entree is due for the 25th.<br />

Sam Gellairty's debut EP, <i>Short Stories</i>, is a stylish electronic EP that blends trap music with future bass, UK garage, and hip-hop as the kids call them. It's a fine EP with quirky, wonky experimental noise that's easy to jam and upper class for the genre purists of the world.</div>

<i><span style="color: #0000ee;">Wh<span style="color: #0000ee;">o Killed Amanda Palmer</span></span></i><span style="color: #0000ee;"><span style="color: #0000ee;"> is <span style="color: #0000ee;">the debut record of former Dres<span style="color: #0000ee;">den Dolls vocalist, Amanda Palmer. Unlike Dresden Doll<span style="color: #0000ee;">s' albums though, what <span style="color: #0000ee;">separated this album from <span style="color: #0000ee;">her group's work<span style="color: #0000ee;"> was how bold and energetic i<span style="color: #0000ee;">t <span style="color: #0000ee;">was.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span> Right within the first second of it's opening track the listener is assaulted with the heavy pounding of piano keys and marching drumlines through the haze of Palmer's powerful croons. The rest of the album doesn't slag down after that, the immediate tracks follows again with heavy pianos, orchestral strings, and crunchy guitars that compliment Palmer's roughly sung vocals.<br />

<i>Who Killed? </i>is a confident ride of an album, and one that you should check out if you haven't.</div>

Surprisingly, it's an apt description for the album. As this is Lil Ugly Mane at his most cynical and creatively insane in his entire career. Yay for cynicism! Rav's debut LP is a smooth, warm approach to the struggle of a lack of success bringing you down to the lowest of lows. "I could always go Cobain if nothing else works" appears to be Rav's approach to the dilemma of success, and it's the centerpiece for an excellent album exploring the said depths of a depressing outlook on life. Chill jazzy arrangements, Rav's smooth rapid flow, and songwriting that's relatable;' <i>BENEATH THE TOXIC JUNGLE </i>is an album well worth the listen.</div>

The Single Soul project has seen one major change after another since it's inception a few years back. Starting as Jacob Scheppler's bedroom pop solo project, Single Soul has expanded it's scope to feel and sound like a full fledged band along with exploration in a various amount of styles and genres. <i>Cold Drone Blues </i>almost sounds like a lost treasure from the 90s, in a way. There's an even split of chilling post-rock arrangements on tracks such as <i>Resilient Spirit </i>and <i>Abby is Pretty</i> and rock tracks that blur the lines of drone, folk, and alternative music on <i>New Wave Girl</i>, <i>Anthology for Mothers</i>, and <i>Brookings</i>. It's a brilliant album that combines the raw spirit of Scheppler's rowdy vocals and angst-ridden songwriting with beautifully composed post-rock melodies and it's perfectly worth a spin. </div>

Mitch Welling's flatsound project has always been a favorite of mine. While the project's beginnings were a slightly above average standard to your traditional bedroom pop project. Over the years the Welling has expanded the sound into a truly beautiful minimalistic folk project that reaches out and touches the soul in a way that a lot of artists simply don't. <i>If We Could Just Pretend </i>is the latest EP from Welling's project, and it's a beauty of an EP. </div>

Remember Kanyequest? Released in 2013, it was a silly RPG maker game about Kanye saving the future from evil clones of famous rappers, and it received some mild media coverage for it's very silly nature. After a while though, it fell off the face of the earth like many minor trends before it. Then came early 2015, when a forum user's friend discovered a very weird and frankly creepy secret hidden in the game that no one previously knew about.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That secret? The game was a front for a cult recruitment program.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It was revealed, that by typing in a secret codeword that many would've missed if not paying strict attention to minor in-game details, one could enter a secret area in the game by asking an NPC to "ASCEND." Upon doing this, users discovered a white marble tiled room and their Kanye sprite being replaced by that of a butterfly. Text boxes would congratulate you for discovering this secret area and inviting you, the enlightened individual, to be part of a series of tests to prove your worth for Ascensionism. What's that you ask? It's a very obscure cult that believes that before life, all souls existed as a collective that arranged all events in life as consensual events. This means that anyone you would date, be friends with, insult, or murdered were all on terms agreed before you were alive. Now the cult's official social media pages are playing a game with the small amount of users aware of Kanyequest's secret, who are trying to crack the code that the game has hidden away. All very creepypasta indeed.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now, what does this have to do with this album exactly? Well glad you asked! You see, Nick Lyons is actually signed to the cult's official Bandcamp page... as he is the only artist. Odd enough is that no information on who Lyons is exists online outside of the fact that he is 19 (now 21) and lives in Australia. This album is like the embodiment of everything creepy about this entire situation. Weird, repetitive themes of apocalypse, harsh noise and piano banging, tortured vocals depicting vivid images of misery, and electronic elements that only further cement the creepiness factor; this is an album that just like the entire story around it, manages to scare and impress at the same time.</div>

Harrison Fjord are an up and coming psych rock outfit from the musical underbelly of Arizona. This track, which is a "live" rendition of a track from their debut EP, is one of the smoothest songs to come out in a while. And surprisingly, the inclusion of an included guitar intro and outro makes it even better than the studio release. With a solid 3 minute electric guitar solo, the group explores the beauty of cold-side-of-the-pillow atmosphere with a sweet saxophone and comforting vocals that hit all the right sweet spots. The heavy bass calms and soothes and if you have headphones that shake real hard when it registers bass notes then you'll be in heaven no joke. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
What do you expect from an artist named Mormon Toasterhead? If you answered "some experimental lo-fi indie folk with emphasis on maximalism" then you are a filthy liar. Mormon Toasterhead's latest release is a jangled up mess of a record, yet it's what makes it beautiful. Elements of folk clash with noise, post-rock, minimalism, and the like in a very cohesive and captivating style. Tracks like <i>Think </i>play straight forward with clean post-rock leads while <i>Corner Store's </i>spoken-word outro levitates to the quirkier side of Ben's musicianship. Ben himself presents a pretty solid vocal performance. His weak, whispery vocals serenade the downing feel of the album in such a brilliant way. Not to forget the falsettos in <i>Corner Store</i> and <i>Viaduct~~</i></div>

I feel like I need to formerly apologize to John O'Hallaron for completely skimping out on properly reviewing his <i>Caves </i>release for some shoddy, unfunny post about me being late to class. It actually was a pretty outstanding psych rock album and it's also one of the least viewed articles on this blog. So Mr. O'Hallaron? I'm sorry. To make it up for you, I wrote a nice review of your debut album that my buddies over on the site I wrote for enjoyed and I am going to probably rec more of your albums here because your music is dope.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Fear or Love </i>is O'Hallaron's latest EP, and is probably the final step to the third-eye singularity that John has slowly been inching towards ever since his first release in 2009. I mean, damn son, this album just reeks of 60s psychedelia down with the parliament smoke weed everyday wake up sheeple revivalism that the world has never seen before. And I love you for that, Mr. O'Hallaron. It's only three tracks long, and what a three tracks those are. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Perception</i>, a song about uh... "finding self awareness and being able to step outside of your emotions to observe your true motives." What this means, I cannot tell you, for I am only a sheeple. What I can tell you though, is that this album is an excellent journey exploring the early day of O'Hallaron's indie rock work with simplistic acoustic strumming and cutesy vocals; to the current state of Chalk Dinosaur with electronica interludes, reggae riffs, fuzzy vocoders, thick and smooth basslines, and psychedelia atmosphere. <i>Fear or Love </i>contains some subdued vocal mixing and twinkly keys that lead to an explosive "jazzy" finale, and finally <i>Soul Divide </i>with some more electronic/dance inspired percussion and psychedelic interludes that finally conclude with something resemblant of a trip-hop arrangement. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's an interesting three track journey that sounds like an accumulation of every trick and sound that O'Hallaron has found and developed since his early days in 2009, and it makes for an outstanding EP worth your time. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Pinegrove are an alternative rock group who are pretty difficult to compare to other bands or even describe as a whole. Their debut album, <i>Meridian</i>, came out a few years back with absolutely zero fan-fare anywhere. Which is a mighty shame, because it happened to of been one of my favorite albums of 2012. <i>Everything So Far</i>, on the other hand, is a compilation of all of Pinegrove's currently released material. This includes their albums, singles, EPs, and mixtapes for a total of 21 tracks. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Since this is a compilation, the album becomes a mix of quick indie-rock and some slower, rough around the edges acoustic tracks. Despite this, none of these tracks end up being bad. You get little instances of different genres here and there. Pop, math rock, indie, lo-fi, and punk among others. Yet none of the qualities of those genres ever end up having a large significant edge on the album's sounds as a whole. Thats why the best you can say about this band is "they're good, they're free, listen to them please." </div>

Genre: Folk</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Recommended Tracks: well there is only one track so...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Smoke </i>is a nifty little song I found based off the recommendation of a fella I know. It's only a single mind you, but it's a great one, so uh yeah...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anywho, this song features a dreary little set-up with the solemn plucking of an acoustic guitar before the sweeping of a violin serenades alongside the guitar. From there, the track progressively picks up with the introduction of bass, guitar, and finally the whispery vocals of Moddi. It's a sad, sad set-up for a song while Moddi himself continues the song with comparing love to that of the ashes of fire. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While this all would typically seen as your generic, paint-by-numbers acoustic folk track the last half takes a sudden turn as Moddi begins yelling out under the sea of guitars and violins in a furious rage that makes the track stick with a sinister energy before finally concluding with a soft piano outro. It's a short little track that picks up a lot of interesting ideas, and is worth checking. Alongside their debut album <i>Set The House On Fire</i> which isn't free but is extremely good. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
There's something incredibly enduring about The Oh See's <i>Through The Deep, Dark Valley</i>. It's a feeling that isn't common on many albums, especially those in the bluegrass/folk revival sound courtesy of groups like The Lumineers and Mumford and Sons. Maybe it's the dynamics of the female/male vocal duo, maybe it's maybelline. Whatever it is, there's no denying that this album just has a contagiously easy-going and happy feeling going on in it's warm folksy pluckery. If that's even a word.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>Through The Deep, Dark Valley </i>sounds exactly like it's title suggests. A journey through the darkness and into the light. With it's concept of the struggles of faith, that is to be expected though. Every track rushes forward with comforting energy delivered through the assistance of a female/male vocal duo (and a large group of background chanters) who, with the assistance of a fine arrangement of loud acoustic guitars and various other instruments to subtly boot, enrich the overall chemistry of the vocalists and the dreary songwriting of self-discovery. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's an enjoyable record, with songwriting and lyrics that are unforgettable in every instance of the word. This album is a definite one that you should pick up no questions asked. It's also suggested that you listen to it from start to finish for the best experience. </div>

Dyatlov Pass.<br />
<br />
This name may sound familiar to those who live and breathe the supernatural and paranormal;' or to those who read Cracked.com articles before it's decline. For those uninitiated though, Dyatlov Pass is a northern plane in the Ural Mountains of Russia and Kazakhastan that became a centerpiece of mystery and intrigue when nine of ten in a group of hikers perished under disturbing circumstances. On the night of Feburary 2nd, 1959, nine of the ten hikers suddenly fled from their camp site and into the dark snowy night where they met their deaths. The mystery of it all, however, were the circumstances the hikers were found in. Some were found barely nude, while others were found with fractured skulls and even missing eyes and tongues.<br />
<br />
To this day, it's unknown what happened to the group entirely. Some suggest they were attacked by indigenous tribes, aliens, or the Yeti. While others suggest that accidental military involvement led to their death. It's a tragedy that has fascinated many for decades on end for it's random and disturbing circumstances. Kauan, the Russian black metal duo for example, were so incredibly wound up with the incident that they created an entire concept album built around filling in the blanks of what happened that odd night. <i>Sorni Nai</i> tells the story with a melancholy holiness that crushes down into despair as it progresses track-by-track. The sound landscapes feature a vast array of operating string and orchestral sections with calming angelic vocals occupying them in the beginning.<br />
<br />
As the album progresses, darker arrangements and harsh growling vocals began to paint the narrative as the intimate drag of death looms over. It's all executed in such a perfectly smooth manner that one can sit back and take the album in as something as a movie (granted that you can understand the lyrics) with it's combination of cinematic post-rock arrangements and punishing black metal climaxes. While the hikes deaths may of been a mystery, what isn't is that <i>Soni Nai </i>is a concept album that charts an interesting territory and in result of the experimentation creates a clear stand-out in post rock and black metal.<br />

<br />
<i>100% Electronica </i>is an oddity of an album. It's part of the ever declining vaporwave movement, a genre nauseatingly stuffed with half-heartedly slapped together projects for the Bandcamp masses. Yet somehow, George Clanton naturally manages to transcend all boundaries and expectations of the genre with a record that sticks out boldly and proudly with a dreamy, dark, and refreshing clash of 80s/90s electronica and the modern day trends of the internet in what is truly a head-scratching post-modernist wet dream.<br />
<br />
Or in other words... this album is dope. Yo. You can hear little bits of influences pop here and there from the slow, "sample" friendly percussion, smooth glossy synths, and Clanton's deep and droning vocals. All is fun and all is unique on this record, as Clanton delivers an ample amount of variety with his various styles of vaporwave and electronica in his composition. It's a full on joy-ride with a little something more for just about anyone and it's what makes <i>100% Electronica </i>one of the best releases of 2015.<br />

Moderator is a 22 year old Greek producer who is quite a delight to listen to. His style, which is rooted in Greek heritage, blends a soulful mixture of funk, hip-hop, trip-hop, and jazz. <em>The World Within </em>displays a beautiful presentation of Moderator's skills with an array of styles that are pleasing and captivating. Moderator's skill in his manipulation of organic instruments and synthetic samples is unmatched. The seductive vocals of <em>Blind You To My Spell</em>, the trippy atmosphere of <em>Harlem River</em>, or the middle-eastern string arrangement dominant in <em>Vasai-Virar </em>all keep <em>The World Within </em>a fresh album that much like the intro track, blind you in a spell through it's duration. I've been following Kill Bill since the release of his debut mixtape <i>Ramona </i>about a year ago. While I found myself not being able to get behind Kill Bill's ballads and reference heavy lyricism, there was a strong sense of genuine heart and output being backed into his work. Thankfully, about a year later, Kill Bill released a follow-up mixtape by the name of <i>RESIN</i>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This mixtape is noticeably darker. There isn't that much safe warmness that was present in <i>Ramona</i>. Instead, the production of the mixtape sees darker tones with glitchy beats and harsh noise. Meanwhile, Kill Bill himself seems to have taken a far more negative perspective in his songwriting as many of the tracks on here feel somewhat self-defeatists. It's an interesting perspective, and the vulnerability that Kill Bill places himself in create moment of sincerity that makes <i>RESIN </i>engaging. If you like dark production, quirky samples, and harsh song-writing then this album is for you.</div>

<em>Low Level Owl </em>is a two part album by American post-rock group The Appleseed Cast. This album saw a heavy change in The Appleseed Cast's sound, where their looser emo sound was swapped out for more cinematic post-rock arrangements in the style of American Football and Explosions in the Sky. <em>Low Level Owl </em>isn't entirely an album that can be listened to at random, many of the tracks rely on fading cues from other tracks to carry itself as a singular experience, as trying to listen to many of these tracks in an isolated run can make them feel a little boring or empty.</div>
<div align="center">
</div>
<div align="center">
This doesn't make it a bad album by any means, but it IS an album meant to be listened as a single experience. The aesthetic of the album focuses heavy on subtle melodies interlaced with loud and bold landscapes that give the album a beautiful feeling. The vocals on the album are very sparse, only used sparingly every few tracks in short passages. These instances give depth to the music in general as a heavy force in genuine intimacy. The album is worth listening to in a single sitting, as it is a beautiful and memorable one. </div>
