Rabbit Junk - Invasion [Hardclash]

I can't see the lines no more...

2014 showed the return of Rabbit Junk, the once industrial duo that fell off the radar of relevancy in 2010 after Project Neocon's release when Pop That Pretty Thirty was dropped with little word from the duo. And if that EP was showing that Anderson and Gurl still had their energy than Invasion is showing that energy going HARD.

Right from the start of the first track we meet with a heavy clash of low tuned guitars and skittering synths playing the backdrop to Anderson's screaming.  The rest of the EP continues to launch the energy of the first track through the atmosphere with crazy sounds that as described by Anderson are "film score-gabber-D&B-shizit style digipunk, trap-death metal-femme fatal, and disco-subverted pop-big riff-new wave. With four brand new tracks and a fun remix from Cyanotic this is an EP that you don't want to miss out on.

Molly Rythm - The Devil Never Comes [Ska Punk]

Over and over again...

Ska and it's more hardcore sister ska-punk have become incredibly neglected genres as of late. The only releases you ever expect to see from these once powerful genres are the veterans or those who fuse it with more accessibly mainstream sounds. Molly Rhythm on the other hand take all of this into account and then toss it right out the window. Because who needs to follow rules and constraints when you can do anything you want?

 

There haven't been many bands that have been able to capture a "IDGAF I do what I wan't" feeling and authority these days like Molly Rhythm have been able to with this incredible album. There is plenty of energy in the record too with high energy riffs and groovy basslines to keep your attention there with every passing song. Many different genres and styles clash such as ska, punk, metal, screamo, and even rap for an incredibly unorthodox album that gets lost in itself and brings forward non-stop fun for it's audience.

C418 - little things [Electronic/Ambient]

It's the little things in life you have to appreciate...

You may not be familiar with the name C418, but there is no doubt you're familiar with his work. C418 is the composer of Minecraft's soundtrack, his calm and peaceful compositions have made his work instantly familiarized in a calm and (mostly) peaceful world like Minecraft. Though C418 has created other compositions that are sadly overlooked most of the time. Little Things is a great example of what C418 is truly capable of with production. 

The tracks are incredibly lovely, many different kinds of genres and style mix and blend into songs that are easy going and very calming. The kind of tracks you would put on if you needed to focus on something or even if you just wanted to relax. C418 presents a lot of different instruments to his synth work, pianos, bongos, violins, and other instruments bring in a lot of depth and texture to the progressive beats in such a beautiful way. Even though these songs were discarded projects they all work together stand alone songs and are the kind of tracks you just gotta put on, sit back, and relax.

Busdriver - Arguments With Dreams [Hip-Hop]

I don't know how to raise children, I only know how to raise money...

Busdriver is... weird. Though even "weird" doesn't really start to describe this abstract hip hop artist. Though I don't think I really need to tell you these things since you probably pieced that together yourself from the album cover. Anyways, Busdriver has managed to keep a dedicated underground fanbase since his release Temporary Forever back in 2003. Though as years have gone by, Busdriver has became more and more abstract as an artist. With incredibly interesting production and enough head scratching lyrics to make people like Aesop Rock wonder what the hell Busdriver is talking about.

Arguments With Dreams which is a set up to the critically acclaimed 2014 album Perfect Hair and here all logic is thrown out the window for a beautifully chaotic record. Many unorthodox ideas are present on the records, such as the broken 8-Bit instrumentals randomly thrown in through out Public Grope or the simply insane mixes of noise on tracks like Everyday Oblivion and Serrated Blade of a Smile. Then of course, the completely abstract lyrics of the album cannot be left un-noted. The writing of Arguments With Dreams presents an incredibly large amount of odd metaphors and almost nonsensical lines. While this album may not be everyone's cup of tea it is certainly one worth a spin.

The Antlers - Cold War [Alternative]

I can't feel a thing...

The Antlers have gathered quite the cult following for their ability to capture the hearts of it's listeners with gut wrenching song writing and hauntingly beautiful instrumentals, even the less interested. Though before The Antlers had gained that following with Hospice they had released a series of EP's where they experimented with their sounds as they had just become a full fledged band (The Antlers was originally the solo project of vocalist Peter Silberman) Cold War was their first release together of the group and it presents a major contrast of who they are now.

It's interesting to see where the group's roots came from. An incredibly quiet and humble record that relied on little words and small theatrics. The solemn and depressing tone that the first track of Cold War sets up remains through the tracks of this EP, it creates a strong feeling of emptiness. Much like Peter's as he wallows over East River Berlin War "I can't feel a thing" over and over. The simplicity of the tracks bring out a lot of beauty that wouldn't of been there if these tracks were made any other way, and that's what makes Cold War such an outstanding EP. It was the building grounds of what would lead on to be one of the most captivating and incredible groups of all time, and it's an EP you don't want to miss out on.

Anderson .Paak - Cover Art [Pop/RnB]

Love isn't always on time...

Anderson .Paak created an interesting concept with Cover Art. Taking the tracks of rock legends such as The Beatles, The White Stripes, Neil Young, and others then giving them a soulful alternative RnB twist similar to what artists back then did with classic jazz and soul tracks. 

Each track on Cover Art feels incredibly unique and original despite them being covers. The complete make overs of all instrumentals along with Paak's smooth vocals blend into a blissful mix of catchy and breath taking. Rather it be the poppy piano and catchy basslines on The Beatle's Blackbirds or the emotionally captivating duet between Paak and Roquel Rodriguez on Toto's Hold The Line. There is an incredibly fine variety of heart felt covers that make this EP worth getting no questions asked.

Pegboard Nerds - The Lost Tracks EP [Electronic]

Fans of the ever prominent EDM label Monstercat Media will instantly recognize the Pegboard Nerds considering they're the labels 2nd biggest artist. Of course, over their career they've managed to release a lot of songs, and sometimes those songs are hard to keep up with. Eventually things get lost, forgotten, or just simply removed from the internet as a whole. That's why the nerds, in association with Monstercat Media, released a fun little EP with the songs previously released by the duo but eventually forgotten about and having limited access to.

The Lost Tracks EP is composed of 6 tracks. Five hard to access tracks from the duo and one of the releases from the label. All of the tracks on this EP are incredibly fun to listen to, with different genres of music to taste such as dubstep, electro, and glitch hop. If you're a fan of electronic music this is an EP you should check out.
